What does it take to get you out on your bike? Or, is your bicycle your happy place?
I know for me I never feel better than after a great ride! Not every ride is great but all have benefits in one way or another.
Sometimes it’s just a time for me to be in my head and contemplate things. Other times it’s exactly the opposite and I’m free from my head and just rolling along.
The way I look at it is this, you either love yourself enough to take time for yourself or you don’t. Sometimes that’s easier than others.
As we age we can come up with all kinds of excuses for not exercising when exercise is what we need the most!
I know you’ve all heard the addage, “if you don’t use it, you lose it”. It’s so very true! For example, take my mom. At some time in her 70’s she came to the conclusion that she was old and therefore didn’t have to do anything anymore. Arthritis came on hard and the result was that she couldn’t do anything. This is an example of what NOT to do! I move every day even if it’s not on my bike.
Yoga and cycling are a GREAT combo! You get great strength and flexibility from the yoga and great cardio from cycling. So, if I can’t take time for a ride, I do yoga. A lot of older folks are finding yoga and reaping huge benefits! And some time on a bike in the beauty of Sedona and it doesn’t get any better!
